Hi everyone :D I'm back from my vacation, and it's time for a vacation report with photos and stuff. Don't get your hopes up, though - it was not a particularly exciting vacation XD

pictures and words )

So, that was the story of my vacation. I still have not quite caught up with all the flist entries and I still have not managed to reply to all the comments from before the vacation, sorry about that. I'm working on it ;)

I hope you liked the pics and were not too bored by my long descriptions of all the stuff I did XDD

So the other day I was on a bus, and I noticed a middle-aged woman who was reading a book and smiling creepily. I surreptitiously looked at the title, and it turned out to be '50 Shades of Grey'. So now I know what the readership of this book looks like XD

I baked a cake with dried cranberries today (I had some dried cranberries and didn't feel like eating them just like that). It turned out a bit too dry, but still edible, and here is what it looks like:

And the other day I was reading about pet hedgehogs, and apparently a very dangerous fatal hedgehog disease is called the Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome. It was wrong of me to laugh, but I couldn't help it.

Also, I completely forgot, but I managed to take a photo of one of my mother's cats while I was in Latvia, so here is Sebastian:

just one photo )

Ooh, and a guy will be coming over tomorrow to have tea and cake with me. That's the same guy I had mentioned before, who was too busy with the studies to go out with me XD But now he is on a break (and accompanied me to the Natural History museum, of which I had written before, but probably didn't mention that I didn't go there alone), and I invited him over tomorrow.

I have no idea what do people do when they visit other people, I normally don't have guests, the only people who have been here are my relatives and those people who came to check the water metres and to fix the heating XD I don't have a TV set, so watching TV is out. I suppose we could play Uno, but that's not fun with only 2 people... Oh well, I'll come up with something. I hope he didn't misunderstand, I invited him for tea and cake only, not for anything untoward (does this word make me sound Victorian XD).

So, I have been to Welle:Erdball concert on Saturday, but I still have not got around writing a proper review XD I'm working on it!

In other news, I watched Hellboy. It was not that clever a film, but somewhat entertaining. And that creepy dude with blade tonfas and all those many kitties and the fish guy were interesting. But how come a pyrokinetic burns everything in the radius of, idk, 5 metres, but her clothes stay intact? XD

Talking about kitties - my mother got herself a new kitten! I am so envious, she is living there with two cats, while I'm here with no cats, where is the justice in that?! XD Our old cat is not too happy about the new addition to the family, but I'm sure she'll get used to the kitten in time. Mother named the kitten Sebastian, I didn't manage to find out why XDD

Winter has finally come, it was freezing this morning, it was at least -1°. And it was really foggy when I went back home after work. Darkness and fog made everything look really creepy, I wished I had a camera, those could have been quite atmospheric photos...

Oh, and I have found a song I've been looking for for an eternity! I had hear it back in the 90s in some music compilation and it stuck in my brain forever, but until now, despite the fact that I knew the lyrics, I could not find it. But suddenly my google-fu skillz improved or something, because I managed to locate it. Here it is, for your listening pleasure, one of the songs that shaped my views on the world XDD

other irl blah blah blah )

Remember I mentioned amusing product names I encounter at work? Well, the thing I saw today just tops them all.

Mansfield brass ballcock.

Yeah. Google it if you want, it exists. Ballcock.

On an unrelated, but sadder note, the rat is doing really badly. You probably don't remember, but as soon as I arrived in Hamburg, I had to bring one of my uncle's rats to the vet to put her to sleep because she had a huge tumour and could not move anymore. And everyone in uncle's family was too busy or were like 'omg, I feel too sorry for the rat, I could not possibly take it to be killed!' So yeah. The other rat had a small tumour, so the vet said we don't have to do anything about that rat. The single surviving rat was relocated to my room, and uncle's family pretty much happily forgot about her, so I was the one to feed her and play with her and buy her treats. At least they still cleaned the rat cage. Sometimes. But sometimes I did it because they never wash it, just scoop out the dirty hay and sawdust or however you call that stuff in cages.

So we lived happily ever after with the rat, only now it's getting pretty bad - her tumour has become quite big, and it's difficult for her to run, and she just sleeps all day and eats less... I'm not sure what to do at this point. I don't know how to tell if the rat is in pain, but she definitely looks worse. I don't want things to get as bad as they did with the previous rat, so maybe I should just get this rat to the vet and not make her suffer anymore. But what if I'm just paranoid and things are not as bad as they look? The rat is pretty old, so maybe the sleeping is due to age, not illness. I can't just put a still healthy rat to sleep...

Maybe I should bring the rat to the vet for a check-up? But really, what are they going to say, it's not like one can really do much about rat's diseases anyway.

I'm pretty annoyed at my uncle's family. They all went 'oh what a pity, I'm so sorry' about the previous rat, but somehow they didn't do a thing to avoid the situation with this rat...

Oh well, I guess I'll have to figure out what to do.
